Dress Up Just Because
Dress Up Just Because

So, the other day I continued to pamper myself at new favorite place in Mesquite - The View Salon. I am able to get my hair styled and colored, have manicures and pedicures, enjoy facials and massages, along with choices of permanent make up. My fingernals were chipped and splitting due to all my hard labor with my move. Kaleiah, who now is my go to person for nail care applied builder gel and other magical ointments to save my nails. We began discussing dress codes and current fashion trends, both agreeing that casual attire has become the norm. I have attended events where patrons were wearing jeans.

I realize that there is something to be said about comfort and convenience. We can slip into a pair of jeans, throw on a top, and ta-da - we are ready to face the day.

I bemoaned the fact to Kaleiah, stating that I was old-fashioned, feeling nostaglic for the times when we actually got "dressed up" for occasions. Kaleiah remarked in a soft voice. "I make everyting an event." When I questioned her, she said that she looks her best at all times. "Even when I am cooking dinner for my boyfriend." She smiled. "I want to look my best for him." I mentioned that I would nver dream of walking to the mailbox without looking "put together."

The other night I was with another new friend Lori, who was the only other woman in the room in evening attire, a white blingy sweater and velvet pants. She told me she makes a point to always look her best. When her husband remarked "But everyone is looking at you, " she laughed. "Good." Is it because she is oringinally from New York and is accustomed to adhering to such dress codes? That could be a partial reason, but I believe that she, like Kaleiah and myself have a certain pride about ourselves. When we look great, we feel great.

Now I am not judging those who adhere to the casual look. I am concerned about those who are maybe "too casual" wearing bedroom slippers to go shopping, not brushing their hair, or clothes that reveal too much of their bodies. But they are comfortable and that's all that matters.

I, for one, will still maintain my dress code and I encourage you to make everything an event. I promise you, you will feel better about yourself.

Thanks kaleiah, for your words of wisdom!
